PORTHOS MEDIA / THE OKANAGAN

Media Digitization in Summerland

Family-owned. Summerland proud. Courtney and John help turn the photos, tapes and recordings you have kept into memories you can use again.

Calm Okanagan waterfront, hillside cliffs and a lakeside path

A local starting point for the things you have kept

Porthos Media is based in Summerland and serves families, businesses and community organisations across the Okanagan and beyond. We begin with a conversation about your collection: what it contains, what condition it is in and what you hope to do with it.

One wedding tape, an album of prints or a mixed family archive can each need a different plan. You do not have to identify every item before getting in touch. Clear photographs of cases, labels and representative pieces help us work out the next step.

Watch, remember, listen

Explore tape and film transfers for home movies, photo and slide scanning for still images, and audio restoration for recorded voices and sound. The service directory also includes documents, tribute videos and creative work.

Our guide to tape formats includes unusual professional and data carriers as well as familiar household media. That identification reference does not mean every format is a routine transfer service. We will confirm the exact item and explain when a specialist route is needed.

Arrange your visit or shipment first

Contact us before travelling to Summerland or mailing a collection. We will agree on the handover arrangements and project details. The published PO Box is a mailing address, not a walk-in shop. Read the mail-in instructions when preparing an agreed shipment.

Keep a count of what you send, protect originals against movement and bending, and retain a copy of the inventory. Let us know about damage before packing; avoid playing a questionable tape just to test it.

From a box of media to a useful archive

Think about who will use the finished files and where you will keep them. We can discuss the delivery method, file grouping, naming and whether you want full recordings, sharing copies or additional editing. A clear plan helps prevent a digital folder becoming the next mystery box.

Start with the free For Keeps guides if you would like to make an inventory, plan backups or record a family story first. Our online estimator can help you describe a digitization project. The final scope and any extra work are confirmed before we begin.

A personal conversation

You will be talking to a family business that understands how personal these objects can be. Tell us what matters most about the collection. The voice, the handwritten caption or the wonderfully ordinary moment may be the reason you kept it all these years.

Frequently asked questions

Local: media-digitization-summerland
Can I visit without arranging it first?
Please contact Porthos Media before travelling so we can agree on the handover arrangements. The published PO Box is for mailing and is not a walk-in retail location.
Do I need to sort everything perfectly?
No. An approximate count and a few clear photographs are a useful start. Keep existing groups and labels together, and tell us what you know about the collection.
Can you handle every format in the tape guide?
The tape guide is an identification reference covering many specialist formats. Ask us to confirm your exact media; inclusion in the guide is not a promise of in-house transfer support.
